“The Collection” is one of the better compilation albums by Vangelis, not only for its comprehensive selection from Vangelis’ back catalogue, but also for a bonus track that is unique to this compilation. Released on the 23rd of July 2012, just before the start of the Olympic Games in London, “The Collection” features 2 CD’s with a selection of well-known themes from as early as 1973, including classics from “L’Apocalypse Des Animaux” (1973), “Heaven And Hell” (1975), “Albedo 0.39” (1976), “Spiral” (1977), "Opera Sauvage” (1979), “Chariots Of Fire” (1981), “Missing” (1982), “Blade Runner” (1982), “1492 Conquest Of Paradise” (1992), “Bitter Moon” (1992), “Voices” (1995), “Oceanic” (1996), “Alexander” (2004) and “BR 25” (2007). Missing in this compilation are favorite tracks from “China” (1979), “Antarctica” (1983) and “The Bounty” (1984), but in compensation the set offers three of the popular hits by Jon & Vangelis. Overall a very good selection for anyone wanting to discover the world of Vangelis.

For completists the main attraction of this compilation is no doubt the final track “Remembering”, a new composition only available on this release. The track is a slow piece of some 6½ minutes in length, featuring Dimitris Tsakas on saxophone. Another interesting track is 'Main Titles' from Blade Runner, which, unique to this release, is an extended version including the original opening titles of the film.

“The Collection” was released in most of the world, except for the US and Asia. The CD case is packaged in an open cardboard cover sleeve.
