KostasKarydasPhotoIntroduction

Kostas Karydas is a Greek singer from Athens who, at the age of 15, started singing at the Terpsithea Cinema in Piraeus. In 1963 he met Giorgos Stratis, the drummer of the band “The Charms”, and he joined the band for about two years, singing among others the songs 'Unchained' and 'OK Charm' (credited as Caridas) in 1965.

In 1966 Karydas went solo and worked with Nikos Mastorakis to film a video clip for the song 'Notte Di Ferragosto', a cover of the Italian song by Gianni Morandi. The song is released on a 7” single, together with 'Se Fra Noi Qualcosa Cambiera' (another song by Gianni Morandi), and the band playing the songs is Vangelis and his group, including Demis Roussos, Lucas Sideras and Argyris Koulouris.

The next year Karydas recorded another two Italian songs, 'Io Per Amore' and 'La Musica e Finita', both songs are covers of songs contesting at the 17th San Remo Festival in 1967. Again Vangelis and his band played on these songs, which were also released as a 7” single.

Unfortunately Vangelis and his band are not credited on either 7" single, but Mr. Karydas himself kindly confirmed that they are in fact the band that can be heard playing on these songs.

Kostas Karydas continued his music career in Athens performing his songs in many of the known night clubs there, until he switched to working as a music producer for a daily show on the Galaxy 92 FM radio station.
